ORCHHA FORT COMPLEX- MADHYA PRADESH

Orchha is a town in Niwari district of Madhya Pradesh state, India  established by Rudra Pratap Singh. It is situated on the banks of the Betwa river and is around 80 km away from Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh (15 km from Jhansi of Uttar Pradesh).

The Orchha Fort complex is a beautiful historical place and attracts many tourists every year

The Complex  consists of a large number of ancient monuments such as  Fort, Palaces and Temples built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The Bundela dynasty architect of the Forts and monuments in Orchha reflects the glory of its rulers. It's interesting to know that it has a touch of Mughal architecture also . It is believed that the Mughal Dynasty and Bundela dynasties were very close. The famous King of Bundela dynasty Bir Singh Dev was a close friend of Mughal emperor Jahangir .

The architecture and the location are spectacular all covered with colorful tiles and paintings which reflect the richness of this kingdom.

Orchha is also famous for its two elevated minarets called Saavan and Bhadon and its four palaces -- Jahangir Palace, Raj Mahal, Sheesh Mahal and Rai Praveen Mahal which depicts the culture of Bundelkhand.

Jahangir mahal in Orchha Fort which was built by the king of Orchha to welcome Jahagir has an amazing indo Islamic architecture as a symbol of friendship between the Bir Singh Deo and Jahangir.

The ancient town of Orchha is also famous for its Chaturbhuj Temple and Raja Mahal among others.

You can enjoy the magnificent Sound and Light Show in Orchha in Hindi and English Language to know the history of this Fort.

RAJA MAHAL is a very beautiful building and is a must see place within the Fort . The Raja Mahal is the king's palace and gives an idea of how lavish their lifestyle was. The interior of the palace still has colorful paintings and murals.

CHATURBHUJ TEMPLES

dedicated to Lord Vishnu, is another temple to visit in the complex. The name Chaturbhuj is a combination of 'chatur' meaning "four" and 'bhuj' meaning "arms" which translates to "one who has four arms" and refers to Rama an Avatar of Vishnu.

The RAJA RAM TEMPLE is a beautiful and famous temple in Orchha. It is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage and a large number of  devotees regularly visit thisTemple.

Not to be confused with the adjacent Chaturbhuj temple, which is also dedicated to Ram. This is a popular temple despite being well off the main tourist circuit.

Lord Ram is King here, hence called Raja Ram Mandir ( Raja means King).

It is believed to be the only place in India where Lord Rama is worshipped as a king with a dedicated temple.

Also is a great place to spend your evening in orchha.

Visiting the temple was indeed a nice and divine experience.

Unfortunately cameras are not allowed here. Cameras and leather articles have to be left outside before you enter the temple.

You can grab some quick food from nearby restaurants with the Betwa river flowing beside it and enjoy evening with family and friends.

Orchha is within easy reach from Delhi. Visitors often combine it with a visit to the Taj Mahal in Agra and the erotic temples of Khajuraho. Jhansi is the nearest railway station and Gwalior the nearest airport. The distance between Jhansi and Orchha is 18 kilometres.
